For those who work in the industry, it is important to know the weight of glass for two reasons. First, to avoid making mistakes when mounting the hardware. Monolithic glass weight calculator

To calculate the weight of a single pane of glass, simply apply this simple formula:

Weight_in_kg = (height x width) x thickness x density. 


Height and width are expressed in meters m;

Thickness in millimeters mm;

density is in kg.

So if we are given a glass sheet of 5.8 m and 7.3 m with 4 mm, the result is:

we multiply width by height: 42.34;

We multiply that result with the thickness which is 4mm: 169.36;

Now we multiply the previous result with 2.5: 423.4.

Certainly, this is the simplest way to obtain the weight of a glass. However, this formula applies to monolithic or single pane glass. That is, for composite glass you have to add another element that we will see below.

How to calculate the weight of laminated glass

If you know it very well, if not, we will tell you that laminated glass is composed of layers of PVB. That is a sheet of glass, pvb layer, sheet glass, in its basic version. Therefore, in the equation between the thickness of these plates is expressed in millimeters mm. So, the formula would be as follows:


Laminated_glass_weight = (width x height) x (glass_thickness + pvb_thickness) x density;

Let's see an example: we are given a laminated glass of 3.40 m and 2.15 m, with glass thickness of 10 mm and pvb film of 4 mm. Then we apply the formula:

3.40 x 2.15 = 7.31;

5 + 4 + 5 = 14; 

14 x 2.5 = 35;

7.31 x 35 = 255.85 kg;

When we gave the thickness of the glass we did it directly with the total of both glasses. Therefore, in the equation we point it out in detail. In fact, as you increase the amount of glass sheets, you are adding. Obviously it also happens with the pvb plates.
